There’s the flanged lock nut (SP1023B), 2 separate gaskets (SP0023Z1), the fiber washer (SP1023Z3), and the inlet fitting body (SP1022A). There is also a Hayward SP1023 inlet return fitting model that uses a double gasket (SP0023Z2) instead of 2 separate gaskets. Things to Consider: The hole in the liner or fiberglass wall should be between 2.360 inches and 2.400 inches. The most common hole diameter is 2.375. The flanged nut end, the fiber washer, as well as one gasket, should be outside the pool, behind the fiberglass or vinyl liner. Another gasket should be on the inside of the pool together with the return fitting body. This means that the liner or fiberglass would be sandwiched with one gasket on each side. A dab of silicone sealant on the side of the gaskets in contact with the liner or fiberglass will provide an additional sealing layer. Pass the fitting body through one gasket, the liner hole, the other gasket, the fiber washer, and finally thread it with the flanged nut. Do not over-tighten. Check the tightness over the next few days to ensure that there are no leaks.
